UNNOT ZIBON, chap-13:'kothar
mullo-protigga rokkha' by dr lutfur
rahman .
value of words and keeping
promise
it is properly felt only by a true
gentleman that human words bear
a significant value. The weight of
your utterance will reveal how far
gentleman you are.
You might not go to a jungle to
follow your father's instruction*
like sriram. But cannot you keep
the value of your small utterances
in your daily life? You have
promised to a gentleman to meet
him tomorrow by 2 pm. You have
to meet him in time since you are
a gentleman and your promises
have a dignified value.
You have said that you will repay
your money lender on a certain
day. The lender is knocking your
door day after day with a gloomy
face nursing a hope of your
kindness(!).but you are making
new promises. There is no one as
hypocrite as you. If you are
actually a bankrupt, admit it openly
and ask the pardon of the lender
no matter he is inferior to you. It
may be true that he cannot do any
harm to you. But men will come to
know that you are not a liar.
Magnificant buildings do not
represent a civilization. Keeping
the value of our sentences along
with buildings and wealth
represent a true civilization.
Do not utter such sentences
whose value you cannot
uphold.neither embarrass your
tongue as it is the most cowardly
nature.
The words, which have a touch of
wrong, should be used as less as
possible. Talkativeness is better
than such words. A talkative man
is a valueless person. He only
harms himself. But he never
cheats his society like a person
who seduces his tongue.
Once a robber imprisoned an
english gentleman. The man
begged the kindness of the robber.
The robber told the man that he(r)
would have brought him to his
house provided that he had not
been ungrateful informing the
government of his(r) whereabouts.
he also told the man that it was
their rule to kill each prisoner. The
english man promised not to do
any harm to the robber. The robber
then took the man to his house at
night. The man secretely informed
the police and helped them catch
the robber. He said that promising
to a robber did not have any value.
The english gentleman, indeed,
showed a cowardly nature. You
have to keep the value of your
words. So the wise men of the
world speak and promise a little,
but work a lot.
